A Breakup Causes More Than A Broken Heart
It's more than having a broken heart sometimes. Breaking up after being in a very close relationship can leave you in a very emotional and confused state of mind. You might also experience grieving almost as if a loved one has passed away. Grief after breakup can really hit you hard and the best thing you can do is to recognize that this is fairly normal and that you will survive with a little time.
The Stages of Grief After Breakup
Here are the basic stages you might experience while grieving for the relationship you had.
1. Denial. You are shocked, dazed, confused. The denial is probably not intentional but your brain is not processing what has happened nor what this means to how you run your every day life.
2. Anger. Angry with your ex, angry with yourself. You understand that your world has crashed in and you want to blame someone for the mess. In this stage you are starting to see reality a bit which is good, but hopefully this stage is brief before you act on those thoughts of revenge that won't go away.
3. Hurt and potentially depressed about your situation. You are constantly thinking about what went wrong and what could have happened differently.
4. Fix it at all costs. Maybe it was all your fault? Can you change, can you fix it all by saying you are sorry and letting your ex have whatever they want out the relationship?
5. Moving on. This can be moving on without your ex and making a new life for yourself. It could also be a reconciliation but based on reality and mutual agreement.
